Market Place South
Hickman & Smith Architects are providing architectural services for Leicester City Council as part of the strategic regeneration of Leicester city centre. The ‘Connecting Leicester’ vision aims to remove barriers and provide a connected, safe and pedestrian-friendly city centre.
The vibrant redevelopment proposals support the strategic Markets development through the creation of a new pocket park link between Market Place and Cank Street.
The development comprises the partial demolition and extension to the existing buildings and the addition of a new shipping container retail development that will support existing market retail and animate the edge of Green Dragon Square. The sustainable proposal up-cycles existing shipping containers and uses passive design and energy efficient means to heat, cool and light the spaces through integrated features such as PV cells and heat pumps. This modular approach allows for adaptability to accommodate for future needs and flexibility.
