The Black Needle

The Black Needle is a Farmhouse and a series of outbuildings on a 34-acre traditional Welsh hill farm in an intensely rural location in the southern reaches of Snowdonia. The core work of this project is restoration works to the existing attachment to the main house, which is over 200 years old. There are also internal alterations to convert an unused 3rd bedroom into a generous master bathroom and expand the downstairs kitchen and utility into a spacious kitchen-dining room.

We also proposed works to the associated outbuilding which would convert it from un uninhabitable barn to a home office with a gym and wet room. The rest of the barn would become a guest annexe space with a bedroom, bathroom and open living space.

This project uses traditional construction methods such as solid slate walls and lime plastering which require careful attention to detail to restore the building in a sustainable and respectful way.
